Nimmer Lecture: Free Speech versus the First Amendment

Last week at UCLA, I gave the 2023 Melville B. Nimmer Memorial Lecture, "Free Speech versus the First Amendment." The lecture describes how the conditions of online speech decenter the First Amendment and widen the gap between what the First Amendment protects and the realization of the values that underlie and justify the First Amendment.
