What Three Republican Votes Cost

JB

ProPublica has just published a chart showing the differences between the House and Senate versions of the stimulus bill. Not a single Republican voted for the House bill, but three Republican senators supported the Senate bill after various changes were made.

I was interested to learn that the Senate version actually has more funding for broadband infrastructure than the House version, even though the total amount going to broadband was cut from the initial proposal. Note that the Senate bill has less money going to state and local governments about 37 billion), less money going to the poor, elderly and unemployed (about 27 billion) and less money going for education (about 17 billion). There is approximately 75 billion dollars more in tax cuts in the Senate bill, but one can't tell from the chart whom these cuts will benefit the most.
