As promised, I now have produced HTML files of the book to go with the larger PDF files, to make it easier to read and use the book online. You'll find them (and the PDF versions) here.
Balkinization has become a major source of reading material; I downloaded the pdf of "Cultural Software" a couple of weeks ago, I'm strolling through Professor Levinson's "Our Undemocratic Constitution," and I have embarked on a fresh study of the I Ching guided by Professor Balkin's book on the subject. (Today's reading is "Peace", which certainly sounds auspicious.) Thanks to Yale for giving permission, thanks to Prof. Balkin for doing the work (both the original writing and the html-ifying.)
A question for the Professor: Is there a convenient place for discussion of "Cultural Software" other than this thread here at Balkinization?
Yes, it's in the works. The next step is to create a discussion forum for the book. I'm thinking about a wiki or another collaborative platform. Suggestions would be appeciated.
I's say a bulletin-board style discussion app is best for conversation. Wikis can be good for accumulating documentation, but they are too disjointed for good discourse, imo. Blogs do not lend themselves well to community building (but they're the new usenet as far as ranting and trolling go.) Email lists are not sufficiently visible. $.02
