Stuck in the middle with you

JB

I took Slate's test  to determine whether I am a Red State or a Blue State kind of guy. Believe it or not, it turns out I'm exactly in the middle.

Clearly the test correctly senses that I'm a Kansas City boy who's a liberal Democrat.

Comments:

I'm right in the middle too. I live in NYC but was raised and lived in Tennessee for several decades.

I think everyone who I've seen mention this has been 'purple' too.

Best explanation of that I've seen is Kevin Drum's:

I was right smack in the middle as well, despite being pretty liberal (though I did listen to Limbaugh a lot when I was a teenager).

I think this test measures, more than anything, whether or not you live in the midwest. I'm not sure how that reflects on Slate's judgment of what makes one "red" or "blue".

I'd say the knoweldge of the midwest explains it, but also your unusually large fund of knowledge on matters important and trivial. That is, even if you weren't from Kansas -- you're culturally literate. After all, the test is knowledge-based, not preference-based.

Each time you fall down, just get back up. If you can pick yourself up, you can also move forward.
